L. Ganesh: Welcome Address

"Under the leadership of Mr Ravindra Gupta, Secretary Heavy Industry we have experienced the revolution of a very special relationship between the Ministry and ACMA….. There is a focussed effort by the government to understand our needs and concerns…"

"……What we need is a national vision, supported by rapid, domestic, economic, administrative and legal reforms."

"….While price reductions are an international trend in the automotive industry, it is also, an area of concern in the component sector, globally…. there will be, inevitably, a limit to what can be achieved in an environment that is overall somewhat relatively inefficient. Price reductions should be achieved by mutual waste reduction. Not by arbitrary exercise of power, which ultimately will drive vendors out of the business. I would like to flag this issue as a crucial one."

"As we globalise we need to adopt policies that continue to support manufacturing at economic scale…"

"Survival today depends on whether we can change faster than our competitors…..we cannot afford to be complacent….Let us remember that China will continue to have protection till full compliance with WTO."

"…the auto component industry, should concentrate on two issues in the next 2-3 years. First, constantly improve quality and productivity and second go international…..ACMA with the Ministry of Industry (GOI), UNIDO, CII and other international agencies, is planning to launch an initiative aimed at providing specialised services, particularly, for the small and medium component manufacturers. I would strongly urge members to join this initiative and benefit from its services…."

"….Let us change our mindset and move away from a simple export-trading format to more sophisticated methods of internationalisation and foreign market entry through even technology transfers and joint ventures. There are some non-traditional markets where such opportunities exist for us. We must however, move fast to exploit these opportunities."

"…..I would urge each company, each member of ACMA to aim for at least 30% exports of total sales. Companies should, also, develop internal capabilities and procedures for export of technology. I believe this is an area of weakness since traditionally we have been importers of technology.

I am confident that with our combined resolve and determination we shall all have a very bright future."
