SEMINAR ON QUALITY CIRCLE, HYDERABAD: 16 NOVEMBER 1999

The 3rd Quality Circle Seminar organized in Hyderabad by ACMA (SR) at Hotel Green Park had excellent response with 26 member and potential member participating.

Mr S D M Rao, ACMA Executive committee Member and Chairman & Managing Director Samkrg Pistons Ltd, inaugurated the seminar, re-iterating Japan's commitment years ago, to Quality Circle, to improve employees' involvement in the work area and develop team spirit amongst workers.


To survive a highly competitive environment and satisfy discerning and demanding customers, continuous improvement of systems and processes was essential with a change in mind-set. Suggesting Quality Circles in respective organizations, Mr Rao appealed for members to take maximum advantage of the seminar. He thanked the Faculty members from Sundaram-Clayton Ltd and Lucas -TVS Ltd, Chennai and Rane Engine Valves Ltd, Hyderabad, for having generously given of their time.


Dr. Shiela Bhide (Centre) at the Quality Circle Programme, Hyderabad

Dr Sheela Bhide (IAS), Secretary Industries, Government of Andhra Pradesh, has actively participated in ACMA programmes organized in the State and once again made time. A short presentation of TPM was made by Mr Sathyanarayana, General Manager (QA), Sudaram-Clayton Ltd, especially for Dr Bhide. Pleased with the level of participation and highly impressed with presentations and work done in the field of Quality, Dr Bhide requested companies to take advantage of useful programmes organized by ACMA(SR).

Further to explaining concepts and benefits of Quality Circle Process, Mr P S Sathyanarayana's presentation was on how to form, administer, present methods and evaluate QC.

The presentation on "Problem Solving Process" by Mr T R Narasimhan, Sr Executive (TQC), Sundaram-Clayton, dealt with identification of a problem, making a systematic approach and solving it.
The requirement of team work and co-operation at all levels for a successful QC was seen in "Pitfall to Progress" by Mr B Palaniappan, Dy Manager (Training & Development ) Lucas - TVS,. A list of Do's and Don'ts for successful Quality Circles, was presented.

Lastly, teams made up from the shop-floor of Sundaram-Clayton (RAMBO), Chennai and Rane Engine Valves, Hyderabad, demonstrated QC effectiveness with a 'model story' presentation on how specific problems could be identified and solved within the given time frame.

The programme ended with a vote of thanks by the participants.
