APAA/ASIA/MEMA SHOW: LAS VEGAS: NOVEMBER 2-5, 1999
The
APAA/ASIA/MEMA Show, held at the Sands Expo Centre.
Las Vegas, USA is organised by Automotive Aftermarket
Industry Association
( AAIA) of USA and the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers
Association (MEMA), ACMA's counterpart in the
U S. It has earned the reputation as the largest
Aftermarket Show and the 50,000 odd visitors -buyers
from the USA, NAFTA and the Mercosul Countries
- was proof of the boast. |

ACMA Group Participation in Las Vegas

At the ACMA Information stand were
displayed catalogues of 12 member companies and product
Exhibitors, Anand Mishikawa Company Ltd, Clutch Auto
Ltd, Gajra Gears Ltd, Kirloskar Oil Engines Ltd, Lucas
TVS Ltd, Sona Group & Trinity Auto Components Ltd,
generated good interest and a sizeable number of enquiries.
Mr R M Abhyankar, Consul General of
India in San Francisco visited the ACMA Stand invited
the Exhibitors on the 2nd evening of the show, to the
Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, to discuss strategy and
offer help and guidance in entering the American automotive
market. Mr Sookjai Leungmekul, Deputy Secretary General
of the Thai Automotive Parts Industry Association and
Mr. Christopher Bates, President, MEMA also visited
the stand.

The Indian Embassy in the Philippines invited
ACMA to participate at the tenth 1999 Motorshow
International, organised by the Center for International
Trade Exhibits (CITEX) a division of Philippines
Exhibits and Themeparks Corporation ( PETCO).
The Show was inaugurated by Mr. Roberto Aventajado,
Secretary in the office of the President of Philippines,
who also visited the ACMA Stand. There were over
55 automotive and automotive related Exhibitors.
ACMA participated successfully as its main objective
of promoting Auto Expo 2000 elicited interest
while the Association also fielded enquiries for
sourcing parts. The market caters to Japanese
cars and components and these are sourced mainly
from Taiwan, Korea and Japan.

On request from the Indian Embassy,
ACMA displayed components besides catalogues from GNA
Axles Ltd., Rane Group & Sar Auto Products. Suggestions
were made for ACMA to organise a Buyer-Seller meet in
the Philippines to create greater awareness of the Indian
auto component industry.
WTO: SEATTLE, USA: NOV 29 -
3 DEC 1999
The WTO meeting at the Washington State Convention and
Trade Centre in Seattle saw developed and developing
nations represented. Present with the CII Indian Industry
contingent, led by Mr R Gopalakrishan, was the automotive
component sector represented by the Automotive Component
Manufactures Association of India with ACMA President
Mr V K Mehta and Executive Director Mr Vishnu Mathur.
CBI SEMINAR ON EXPRO 23, NETHERLANDS:
7-15 FEBRUARY 2000
EXPRO 23, an orientation seminar on marketing and management
of exports of auto parts to west European markets was
conducted by CBI (an arm of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign
Affairs) at the CBI Headquarters in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Of the 27 delegates selected and invited from India,
Pakistan, Indonesia, Tunisia, Egypt, Kenya and Tanzania,
15 were from India which included the ACMA Secretariat
Representative and 5 delegates from member companies.
The curriculum was broad based with
subjects ranging from the EU market for auto parts;
the ITC competitiveness gauge for Benchmarking to Export
Audit and SWOT Analysis. The study also included: EU
Regulations on Automotive Parts; Market segmentation
in the EU; Case Studies; Financial Analyses; Trade Marks
and Patents, etc. and a visit to DAF truck plant in
Eindhoven and RAI Truck Show in Amsterdam.
