The ISO/TS 16949 standard, written
by the International Automotive Task Force (IATF),
is an international group of automotive trade
associations and vehicle manufacturers including
BMW, Daimler Chrysler, Fiat, Ford, GM (including
Opel, Vauxhall), PSA-Peugeot-Citreon, Renault
SA, Volkswagen and the Automotive Trade Associations
AIAG (America), VDA/QMC (Germany), SMMT (UK).
ANFIA (Italy), CCFA and FIEV (France).

In
conjunction with the ISO 9000 standard, ISO/TS
16949 specifies the quality system requirements
for the design/development, production and where
relevant, installation and servicing of automotive-related
products. In effect, the ISO/TS 16949 standard
is a result of harmonisation of efforts of the
supplier and quality system requirements, of car
manufacturers worldwide. The Standard has received
very positive response from almost all the major
International manufacturers. |

|
It is anticipated that the Standard will give suppliers of
automotive products to international markets, the option
of maintaining one single quality -system registration
to meet multiple customer quality requirements at the
same time eliminating multiple certification audits. Soon,
this Standard may replace the QS 9000.
