REGIONAL ACTIVITY

Presentations were made by Mr Sandeep Shrivastava of CII Environment Management Division on Concepts & Implementation of ISO 14001 while Mr Ajay Sachdev of UL India Pvt Ltd presented the "Role of Certifying Bodies" in implementation of ISO 14001.

Mr Deepak Yadav, Manager & Mr Pradeep Hatgaonkar, Deputy Manager of Sandhar Locking Devices, made interesting presentations on the Implementation of ISO 14001 and shared their "Successful Experiences" . They also shared their experience in Sensor Installation for water reservation, Re-circulation of water, Rain Water Harvesting, Plantation and Greenery, Training on First Aid to the Workers and achievements in their cost cutting drive on electrical and diesel consumption through the implementation of ISO 14001.

This was followed by an excellent visit to the Sandhar Locking Plant.

SEMINAR ON COSTING & COST MANAGEMENT : 18TH AUGUST 2001, NEW DELHI

The Department of Company Affairs (GOI), recently introduced Cost Accounting Rules for all types of Automotive Parts and Accessories. It is mandatory for the auto component industry to maintain these Records.

A Seminar was organised jointly with the Institute of Cost & Works Accountants of India (ICWAI) to create awareness of the new development among members and help to know and understand the procedures of Costing & Cost Management.

Mr. Yogesh Munjal, ACMA EC Member & MD Munjal Showa, chaired the Seminar. After welcoming the Speakers, ICWAI personnel and participants, Mr Munjal briefed those present on the current industry scenario and the impact of the removal of Quantitative Restrictions on industry. He also mentioned that this was the first Seminar held in the new ACMA Office, in Munirka, where the ACMA Headquarters, shifted recently.

Speakers were : Mr B S Ramaswamy, Cost Accountant & (Retd.) Additional Secretary, Government of India; Mr O P Agarwal, Chief General Manager, IFCI; Mr Chandra Wadhwa, Central Council Member, ICWAI; Mr H Pothiraj, Joint Director Cost Accounts Branch, Ministry of Finance, Govt. of India and Mr I P Singh, Joint Director Cost Audit Branch, Dept. of Company Affairs, Govt. of India.

Presentations covered a broad spectrum of topics:

Introduction of Costing System the concepts, system methods and Techniques and Cost Sheet

• Alternative Source of Financing Venture capital, Commercial papers, factoring & new other Instruments

• Cost Reduction capacity utilisation, make or buy decisions, pricing decision, optimising product mix, inventory management, cash and debtors management, etc.

• Cost Accounting Records Rules (for Automotive Parts & Accessories)

The encouraging feedback from participants said the Seminar was useful and informative. There were requests for another seminar to discuss further the implementation of Cost Accounting Records.

Mr D C Bajaj, Immediate Past President of ICWAI joined the Seminar and talked of the advantages and benefits that would accrue to a company maintaining Cost Accounting Records.

Taking the bull by the horns earlier on, it had been decided that This programme would be held in ACMA 's new Board - room which comfortably seats 40 persons. An overwhelming response from the membership forced the Northern Region Secretary to freeze the list on the count of 45. A second seminar, therefore, on the same lines, has been planned for mid September 2001.
