SEMINAR ON ISO 14001 THE ENVIRONMENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM & VISIT TO SANDHAR LOCKING DEVICES PLANT: 28TH JULY 2001, GURGAON

There is a growing concern both in industry and society to protect the Environment. ISO 14001 - the Environment Management Systems (EMS) which is a System Standard that helps industry to properly manage, recycle and dispose off the enormous amount of waste generated by it. "Environment Friendly" labelled products are now claiming the same significance as "quality" did in the early '90s. The Seminar, held in the Sandhar Locking Devices Plant was very much the need of the hour.

More than 25 participants from different companies were present for the programme. All senior officials of Sandhar Locking joined and stayed throughout the programme, taking active part in the deliberations.

Welcoming the participants to the Seminar, Mr Deep Kapuria, Chairman, ACMA (NR) reiterated the importance of understanding the nature of ISO 14001 and the Social Awareness Standard of SA 8000. These certification, evolved by developed nations, would be restrictive in nature for companies wishing to export to these countries. It was therefore, essential that companies should look at the detailed meaning of these Standards in order to integrate in the world market and face challenges. Mr Kapuria, specially thanked Mr Jayant Davar, Managing Director, Sandhar Locking Devices and his entire team for their whole-hearted support in organising this Programme.
