ACMA EC VISITS VISTEON AUTOMOTIVE : 31ST JULY

Coinciding
with the 6th EC Meeting, members of the ACMA Executive
Committee visited Visteon Automotive Systems P
Ltd, Chennai, on 31st July 1999.
A warm welcome was accorded to the ACMA delegation
on arrival. Mr. Horst Herzog, Managing Director
Visteon, personally and along with the entire
senior management team, received the members of
the delegation.

A presentation by Mr Dev Sharma, General
Manager, Visteon, gave a brief profile of the company
- 80 manufacturing locations worldwide, with 82,000
employees and over 30 Technical Centres in 20 countries
spread over 5 continents. A feature of pride to note,
on behalf of Visteon, was that all Visteon facilities
were ISO-9000 certified and are now in pursuit of QS-9000
certification. A point of admirable achievement will
be when all Visteon facilities worldwide become Q1 by
January 2000. Visteon, with some 1400 patents issued
in its name, has Full Service Engineering with CAD/CAE/FEA
capability and Rapid Prototyping Facilities.
The manufacturing identities of Visteon
in India, are Visteon Automotive Systems India (P) Ltd
and Visteon Powertrain Control Systems India (P) Ltd.
The total Investment in these two plants was Rs. 600
crores. The Companies' products were Climate Control
Systems, Instrument Clusters, Exterior and Interior
Plastics, Starter Motors and Alternators. The last two
components were 100% export items, going chiefly to
export markets in South America and Europe. Hyundai
and Ford were Visteon's main Indian customers.
The Company was dedicated to the concepts
of Lean Manufacturing and the Visteon presentation included
an introduction to "Lean Manufacturing Principles".
A tour of the plants, after the presentation,
wrapped up the ACMA Delegations' visit with Mr. Dinesh
Munot, President ACMA, complementing Mr Herzog and his
team for setting up a world class manufacturing facility
in India and thanking them 'for providing the Delegates
with the wonderful experience of touring two, truly
global standard, plants. |
