NATIONAL ACTIVITY

Along side the Exhibits of automobiles and auto components, several conferences and allied events were conducted by the three Associations.

Following are meetings and seminars organised by ACMA

ACMA MEETING WITH THREE DELEGATIONS DURING AUTO EXPO:

FIEV 15 January, 2002
SMMT 16 January, 2002
C-IBC 21 January, 2002

Hall 18, Pragati Maidan, with the largest number of automotive component exhibitors, had the distinction of having it's own Business Lounge for one-to-one meetings between Exhibitors and clients. It, also, had a Presentation Lounge, where ACMA met with visiting delegations. FIEV from France, SMMT from the UK and C-IBC from Canada.

The three were met, separately, by Mr K Kejriwal, ACMA President, who made a presentation on the current "facts and figures" and strengths and advantages of the Indian auto component industry. Meeting the Delegations were, also ACMA's Trade Fair Chairman Mr D K Jain, Vice President Mr Deep Kapuria, and Northern Region Chairman Mr A K Taneja.

FIEV - a 6 member Delegation came with the objective of meeting and understanding the plans of OEMs, as well as, meeting with component manufacturers. At their request, plant visits to OEMs and member companies in the Northern Region were arranged. 5 members from the French Trade Commission in India, joined the Delegation.

SMMT & DTI - SMMT brought a 14 member Delegation of which 8 were exhibiting at AUTO EXPO 2002. In addition there were two persons from the Commercial section of the British High Commission. The Directorate of Trade & Industry (DTI), an U.K. Government body, also sent a 2 member foresight team from the Auto Directorate. At the request of DTI, plant visits were organised to the North, South and West of the Country for the Team to better understand the capabilities of the auto component sector. A visit was also, organised by ACMA to the ERC (research centre) of TELCO, in Pune.

C-IBC-An important aspect, deserving special mention - the Canadian-India Business Council (C-IBC) visit, led by Mr Murray Jans, Executive Director, C-BIC, was the first ever delegation to come and meet with the auto component manufacturers in India. Present too, was Mr G S Sobti, Advisor (Trade), Canadian High Commission. Presentations were made By C-IBC and each of the Canadian companies. It was a positive meeting, with Delegates, somewhat, surprised at the high quality of the show. It was, also, felt that the Indian auto component market had much to offer. Members of the delegation, in fact, had several meetings set up with ACMA member companies who attended the presentations. One of the visiting companies had taken the trouble to convert the Canadian dollar to its rupee value for the presentation - proof, perhaps, of their serious intent.
