Dear Member,
The vehicle manufacturers have
decided to offer Emission Warranty for vehicles
from 1st July 2001. This Emission Warranty will
cover all categories of vehicles: Passenger Cars,
MUVs, CVs, Two- Wheelers & Three Wheelers.
For Commercial Vehicles, the warranty would be
valid from the date of implementation of the Bharat
Stage II norms which, initially, will cover the
cities of New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.
This is a major step by the auto
industry in India to ensure effective emission
management in the country.Needless to say, like
all other warranties, the emission warranty can
succeed only with the willing |
support of the component industry.
As responsible partners of the vehicle manufacturers,
the component industry needs to come forward and support
the effective implementation of the Emission Warranty.
We expect that many of the emission
related parts and components would fall under the purview
of this warranty, including Engine and Engine management
systems, Exhaust systems, Fuel systems, Charging systems
Ignition systems etc.
Details of the SIAM Proposal for Emission
Warranties may be down loaded from the ACMA Site www.acmainfo.com.
I would request members to study the SIAM proposals
and understand the implications relevant to their area
of business. To create awareness on the implications
of such a Warranty on the component manufacturers, ACMA
and SIAM also plan to conduct programmes in the Regions.
I urge all ACMA members to play an active role and
extend wholehearted support to the vehicle manufacturers
in this pioneering effort.
I shall appreciate your views and comments in this
respect.
