| VAZ |
Formed in 1969, manufactures
the well-known Lada; the VAZ 110 notchback, VAZ
2111 fullback, VAZ 2112 hatchback (these models
were introduced around three to four years ago and
cost anywhere between $ 5,000 - 7,000 depending
on the features and engine); and NIVA a 4WD SUV. |
GAZ |
Formed in 1928, manufactures the
VOLGA a Passenger car in two variants 3110 and 3111.
The GAZELLE which is available in two versions -
15 - seater bus and 1.5 tonne truck. The SOBOL available
in two versions: 9 - seater bus and 1 tonne truck.
The Company makes 4 tonne trucks, as well. It has
begun manufacturing diesel engines called 560 in
the 4-6 cylinder range and makes these with a licence
from Steyr. |
MOSKVICH |
Formed in 1929 makes passenger cars
with a name similar to that of the company or is
called Sviatogor - the 2141 is a popular model in
Moscow; it also makes the RENAULT CLIO (MOSKVICH
and Renault have formed a company called AUTOFRAMOS
which assembles the Renault Clio car). |

Formed in 1968 makes passenger cars
- the ODA is a hatchback with a rear engine similar
to the one used in LADA. The Company makes pick-ups
with a hard top which has a carrying capacity of
600 kilos and, also assembles VAZ’S NIVA in
its plant. |

ZIL |
makes 3- tonne trucks with small
wheels for city use. Runs on diesel engine of 120
HP. 8 tonne trucks run by diesel engines of 180
HP. 6- tonne trucks run by petrol engines of 150HP. |
| URAL AZ |
makes army trucks, IVECO trucks and
has the capacity fitted with a KAMAZ engine. IVECO
trucks are also assembled. Heavy parts for the trucks
are out-sourced from various IVECO plants in Europe.
The main customers for the IVECO trucks are Gas
and Fuel companies. |
| URAL IMZ |
manufactures motorcycles which are
based on the BMW R75 model of 1935 vintage. In the
early 1950s, there were two manufacturers of scooters
but several years later the production was discontinued
since two wheelers were not operable in the harsh
Russian winter months. Today the interest has resumed
and scooters are made in a place called Tula. |

Component systems such as steering systems, rear axle
assemblies and braking systems are normally manufactured
by the vehicle makers themselves. Very little outsourcing
of these takes place.
