MEETING WITH PRESIDENT PUTIN AND VISITING DELEGATION:
5th OCTOBER 2000, MUMBAI

ACMA had the opportunity to meet Mr. Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation at a meeting organized by CII and FICCI in Hotel Oberoi, Mumbai. Present were the Union Minister, Mr. Yashwant Singh and Maharashtra Chief Minister, Mr. Vilasrao Desmukh. A display was organized showcasing the capabilities and achievement of the Indian Industry while highlighting the Indo-Russian co-operation. ACMA participated with exhibits from member companies and was represented by the ACMA Vice President, Mr K Kejriwal and Western Region Chairperson, Mrs Pilloo C Aga.

WORKSHOP ON VALUE ENGINEERING : 13 & 14 OCTOBER 2000, PUNE

Consistent with ACMA's Workplan, the Western Region Office also organised a two day workshop on Value Engineering. This was a cluster approach programme consisting of 6 companies with 5 delegates from each company. Faculty, Mr. S.L. Padhye. (Certified Value Specialist and Council Member of Indian Value Engineering Society) conducted the programme, narrating actual Implementation of Value Engineering examples and case studies.

The characteristics of Value Engineering, Mr.Padhye said, was creative technique directed at analysing the functions of a product, a service or a system with the purpose of achieving the required functions at the lowest cost and yet consistent with all the requirements comprising the value of performance, reliability, maintainability, appearance, etc.

Definition of Value x as used in Value Engineering is – Maximum value of necessary functions with reliable minimum overall cost.

PLANT VISIT TO S K F BEARINGS LTD & SPICER INDIA LTD:
17th OCTOBER 2000, PUNE

32 Delegates from Western Region made a successful visit to the Plants of SKF Bearings Ltd. and Spicer India Ltd. located in Pune, to share Best Practices implemented by the Companies.

Chairperson, Mrs. Aga, in her welcome address said that "Experience sharing" was an important aspect of "Learning" which enabled us to gain information on new techniques thereby increasing the competency level. Such Study Mission have already been welcomed by the industry at large. Mrs. Aga appreciated the willingness, of companies, to share their experience.

Established in 1965 SKF Bearings Ltd. is a QS 9000 and ISO 14000 certified company. 900 crores turn –over, OE suppliers to almost all vehicle manufactures, the company restructured its business to ensure process upgradation and continuous improvement

An Anand Group Company, Spicer India Ltd was established in 1964 in collaboration with Dana Corporation, USA. They are JIT suppliers with to TELCO and have self certification status. Like other Anand Group companies Spicer India’s workforce consist of 30% women workers.
