NORTHERN REGION

Late Afternoon: Interaction with President & Vice President, Essex Farms, New Delhi

Fifty Northern Region Members met and interacted with the newly elected ACMA President & Vice President. The President, Mr. L. Ganesh addressed participants, stressing ACMA’s priorities and giving a brief on the Auto policy.

The interaction threw up some interesting thoughts and questions :

  • Could ACMA start a B2B portal for the After – market?
  • Could an independent Expert come and talk to industry on how E-business can be operated, etc.
  • Could ACMA take –up with insurance companies the aspect of product liability & consequential liability- get an independent consultant to write a white paper on what other companies were doing in other countries
  • Would ACMA prepare a guideline for warehousing in foreign countries for exports
Evening: Interaction with Honda Scooters & Motorcycles Ltd, Essex Farms, New Delhi

Northern Region has a feather in its hat with the first ever interaction arranged with Honda Scooters & Motorcycles Ltd.

In the new location of the Industries Township of Manesar, Haryana, the Company is setting up a Honda Plant with a planned investment of Rs. 200 crores and capacity of 100,000 units per annum. The important note to take is that Honda plans for a 100% indigenisation of auto components

A swell of 50 members were present at this interaction.

Mr. T Sato, Director (Purchase), and Mr. Anupam Mohindroo, General Manager (Purchase) from Honda Scooters & Motorcycles Ltd, met with ACMA participants towards the end of the Interaction with president & Vice President and spoke of Honda’s future plans, growth strategy, localisation, etc.

Honda Plans

  • 50, 000 units in 2000-2001
  • 3000,000 units in 2004
  • Initial exports of vehicles to S. America, Africa, Sri Lanka, Nepal
